CAPS Avian CBC Submittal Form

A Complete Blood Count will include the following

  • WBC Estimate
  • HCT
  • RBC morphology
  • Hemoparasite screen
  • WBC differential and morphology evaluation
  • Thrombocyte est and morphology

 

Specimen requirements:  Two-four blood smears (slide to slide, coverslip to slide techniques are acceptable. Slides should be a uniform smear and not thick for proper evaluation).  1-2 hct tubes sealed with clay at one end.  These samples can be sent regular mail in a protective wrap. Do not refrigerate or send on ice.  If the samples are pulled and shipped for next day, the sample can be put in a heparin mictotainer with no plug, and CAPS can make the smears. Please make arraignments with CAPS is requiring next day delivery.
